What a Franchise Consultant Does and How the Relationship Works
People often enter franchise research through online listings, brand advertisements, referrals, brokers, consultants, lenders, attorneys, or conversations with existing owners. The number of sources can make it difficult to understand who does what and where each person's interests fit.
Ryan Perry works as a Franchise Consultant and Coach. His role is to help experienced professionals and business owners investigate franchise ownership through a structured, fit-based process. The relationship includes education, preparation, introductions, accountability, and decision support, but it does not replace the candidate's independent due diligence or professional advisors.
The Relationship Begins with the Candidate
Ryan begins by learning about the person rather than presenting a generic list of concepts. The discussion may include professional experience, goals, preferred ownership role, family considerations, financial position, concerns, geographic preferences, and the future the candidate wants the business to support.
This information helps define useful characteristics for the investigation. It does not create a guarantee that any opportunity will be a good fit or produce a particular result.
Ryan Helps Organize the Investigation
A candidate may need support deciding what to examine, preparing for meetings, speaking with franchise owners, comparing information, and identifying unanswered questions.
Ryan may help candidates:
- Clarify personal and professional objectives
- Define preferred ownership characteristics
- Review franchise concepts within the available portfolio
- Prepare for franchisor conversations
- Prepare for franchisee validation
- Develop more realistic ownership expectations
- Remain accountable to the investigation process
- Decide whether to proceed, continue, change direction, or stop
Franchising Path Is Ryan's Consulting and Education Platform
Ryan is the Founder of Franchising Path, his franchise consulting and education platform. Franchising Path provides information about the consulting process, educational resources, and the primary way prospective candidates can request an introductory conversation.
RyanPerry.org serves a different purpose. It explains Ryan's professional identity, background, experience, expertise, and perspective. Franchising Path explains how a prospective candidate can begin working with him.
Ryan Is Affiliated with FranChoice
Ryan is an independent Franchise Consultant affiliated with FranChoice. Through that affiliation, he works with a portfolio of franchise brands accepted into the FranChoice network.
Ryan's recommendations are limited to brands within that portfolio. He does not represent every franchise brand in the market, and the portfolio should not be interpreted as a complete list of all possible ownership options.
How Compensation Works
The franchise brand pays FranChoice under a pre-existing agreement, and FranChoice pays Ryan. There is no additional cost to a franchise candidate for using his services.
Candidates should still understand that Ryan works within the FranChoice portfolio and receives compensation when a qualifying placement occurs. Transparency about the relationship allows candidates to place the guidance in the proper context and continue their independent evaluation.
What the Candidate Remains Responsible For
The candidate remains responsible for the ownership decision and the independent investigation. That includes reviewing the Franchise Disclosure Document, verifying information, understanding contractual obligations, evaluating financial readiness, assessing financing, and consulting qualified legal, financial, tax, lending, or other professional advisors.
A consultant can help structure the process and prepare the candidate, but cannot guarantee franchise approval, business performance, financing, profitability, or a particular future outcome.
What Happens When the Fit Is Not Right
A useful consulting relationship does not define every decision not to proceed as a failure. The investigation may reveal that the opportunity, owner role, investment, timing, or business model does not fit the candidate.
Ryan may help the person examine a different direction, continue investigating, pause, or stop. A well-supported decision not to move forward can be a responsible result of the process.
Questions to Ask Any Franchise Consultant
- What is your professional role and affiliation?
- Which brands or portfolios can you introduce?
- How are you compensated?
- What does your process include?
- What decisions and professional reviews remain my responsibility?
- How do you respond when a candidate decides not to proceed?
- What direct ownership or operating experience informs your guidance?
The Purpose of the Relationship
A Franchise Consultant and Coach should help a candidate investigate ownership with better structure, preparation, and accountability. The relationship should make the decision clearer, not make the risks disappear.
Ryan's approach is shaped by his prior experience as a franchise owner, multi-unit operator, and area developer. He uses that experience to help candidates examine what ownership may require before they make a major commitment.
